Update on refuse and recycling collection delays, and temporary drop-off restrictions from 1 July 2022

The City of Cape Town regrets to inform residents that we are still working on resolving the delays with our refuse collections in some areas and the disruption at drop-off sites. Residents are assured every effort is being made to conclude this process as soon as possible so that affected services can return to the usual schedule.
1. REFUSE COLLECTION IN WHEELIE BINS
Delays are due to contract administrative processes which need to be concluded before implementation of the new and expanded contracts.
The areas listed below will not receive a service on Monday, 4 July 2022. They will be serviced on Tuesday, 5 July 2022. Residents should please keep their refuse bins on their property until Tuesday morning.

2. DRY RECYCLING COLLECTION IN BAGS
All areas that receive a recycling service in bags will not be serviced on Monday, 4 July and Tuesday, 5 July. Residents are requested to keep their bagged recycling on their properties until Monday, 11 July and Tuesday, 12 July 2022.
NOTE: The recycling collection in bins will proceed as normal.

The recycling service will resume from Wednesday, 13 July 2022.
3. DROP-OFF RESTRICTIONS (NO CHANGE)
In addition to refuse collection delays, due to a delay with contract administrative processes, the drop-off facilities will offer a restricted service with effect from 1 July 2022 as follows:
- Mixed Waste and Builders Rubble: limited to one 1,5 ton load per client at ALL sites (while there is bin capacity, rubble must be disposed of at landfill sites).
- Garden refuse will be accepted at only the following sites: Kommetjie, Hout Bay, Mitchells Plan, Wynberg, Prince George Drive, Killarney, Tygerdal, Kraaifontein, Athlone and Gordons Bay.
Drop-offs at Coastal Park and Vissershok are not affected by the restrictions mentioned above.
The City will continue to update residents around contingency plans as the situation unfolds.
